A native of Tampa, Florida, Luis Gonzalez was selected in Round 4 (#90 overall) of the 1988 MLB Amateur Draft by the Houston Astros, and reached the Major Leagues in 1990. He was traded to the Chicago Cubs in 1995, signed with and played for the Detroit Tigers in 1998, and was traded to the Arizona Diamondbacks in 1999. In 2001, Gonzalez hit a career high 57 home runs, won the Home Run Derby at that year's All-Star Game, and got the World Series Championship-winning hit in the bottom of the 9th inning of Game 7 against the New York Yankees.
