A native of Baton Rouge, Louisiana, David Dellucci played for four years at the University of Mississippi. (He was elected to the Ole Miss "M Club" Hall of Fame in 2010 and was named as one of the 50 Greatest Athletes in Old Miss history.) Dellucci
was selected in  Round 10 of the 1995 MLB Amateur Draft in 1995 by the Baltimore Orioles and reached the Major Leagues with that team in 1997. He was selected in the 1988 MLB Expansion Draft by the Arizona Diamondbacks, and played for that team till mid-season in 2003. He was on the 2001 World Series squad that beat the Yankees in 7 games, his slide into Second in the bottom of the ninth to upset Derek Jeter proving to be a crucial element in that victory. Just before the trade deadline in 2003, Dellucci was traded to the New York Yankees, and he appeared that year in the World Series against the Florida Marlins. In 2004, he signed as a free agent with the Texas Rangers.
In 2005, Dellucci had one of his best years as a professional, recording a season high in total at bats (435), along with home runs (29) and RBIs (65). He is tied for second in Ranger history with 4 lead off home runs.
David Dellucci subsequently played for the Philadelphia Phillies, Cleveland Indians and Toronto Blue Jays. He is currently a color commentator for Sports South, ESPN3, Atlantic Sun TV, and CST.
