    A native of Portland, Oregon, Dan Carlson was drafted in the 33rd Round of the 1989 MLB Amateur Draft by the San Francisco Giants and reached the Major Leagues in 1996. He pitched for the Tampa Bay Rays in 1998, and for the Arizona Diamondbacks in 1999. He continued to pitch in the Diamondbacks organization through mid-2001, and then briefly for the St. Louis Cardinals' Triple-A affiliate, the Memphis Redbirds. Carlson also pitched in 2000 for the Chunichi Dragons of the Japanese League. He was for several years the Pitching Coach for the Mobile BayBears when they were the Double-A affiliate of the Arizona Diamondbacks.
