Description

1916-1920s Cook County Illinois Fair At Dean's Fairgrounds In Palatine, IL -- Photos.   In Illinois most of the counties have a county fair.  Cook County, the largest county in the State does not have a county fair but at one time it did.  It was located in different places until 1916.  In 1916 the Cook County Fair found a permanent home in Palatine, Illinois at Dean's Fairgrounds, an 120 acre farm owned by Charles Dean.  This farm was also training grounds for many racing horses.
Financial burdens shuttered the Palatine operation by 1928,.  The Cook County Fair did try to hang on. It opened near the Loop for a short time and after that in the Cook County Forest Preserves near North Ave. and River Rd. — but attempts to revive a full-on fair and not just a one-time carnival sputtered out in the mid-1930s.
